The Rough Draft

If you can't go through it. Go around it.

Colin was acting up a bit this morning so I decided to get him out of the house and take him on a hike up to Hilton Falls just past Milton.  It’s a pretty easy hike one you get up the first hundred feet from the parking lot so I wasn’t too worried about his heels.  It’s 8km there and back so a good walk by anybody’s standards.  Of course I was packing about sixty pounds of camera gear in my backpack.  Which makes the old adage, “”If you have the room, you will fill it,”  true.

The nice thing about the Hilton Falls are they’re fairly short and not too active, which keeps the spray down but have enough height to make things visually interesting.  They’re also well forested which allows you to work with the light a lot easier than when you’re working with no shade whatsoever and you’re blowing out the image all over the place.

Today was a hodgepodge of lenses.  My trusty Sigma 17 – 70mm, the 40mm Pancake lens, the Edge 80 and even a brief couple of shots with the Lensbaby double glass insert (brief but not too successful, I’m leaning towards keeping this lens for Portraits only) .  I also took a lot of bracketed shots so I could HDR them in post.  There’s a lot of texture to this area and I wanted to convey that in the images.

Thanks for looking.

Another with the Edge 80 full tilt down

Another Edge 80 shot again, the tilt is towards the bottom of the frame.

Back to the trusty Sigma

I like how the tone of light turned out in this shot. No tweaking on my part either.

A wider version.

Some HDR from the top of the Falls.
