A few months back Colin bought tickets to the Clarington 200 official Canadian NASCAR series out at Mosport. The race is held on their speedway oval track. Though they did mention that last night’s race was going to be the last one there. So not sure if they’re building a new oval or if the oval is being done away with entirely. I’ll have to do some research on that for later.
Now I’m not a NASCAR fan, though their road course types of race would probably be more to my liking. However this race unlike last years had a lot fewer yellow flag incidents so it was easier to follow. When a circuit is around 21.25 seconds, the lead cars run into the back markers pretty bloody quick and that’s when I pretty much lose the ability of being able to tell, who is in first. I understand the appeal of NASCAR, they’ve done a lot of groundwork making it family oriented. I did notice this year that they didn’t allow the fans onto the track and kept them behind the safety fence.
There is something visceral about race engines and race exhausts and the drivers certainly aren’t above stuffing their car in their to get the advantage coming out of the corners. All in all we had a fun night.
I shot these with a trusty old Canon 70-300mm F4.0-56 Lens. No IS which wouldn’t have mattered much as I was doing a fair bit of panning which shuts off the IS anyway. I think it’s time to start saving up for L Glass.
