You know a sub is pretty roomy when you take out the stuff that’s in the way. I had a harder time navigating my way through the sub from forward to aft as I’m a bit wide in the shoulders and I was wearing my Manfrotto camera backpack which makes turning a chore. The Croaker is pretty cool as well though and was a good way to wind up the tour. Subs unlike Destroyers and Cruisers are pretty much a straight shot through their innards. Submariners are also a unique breed among sailors. I’m not too claustrophobic but I’ll bet that can change in an instant when you’re three hundred feet down and they’re dropping depth charges on you.
I love how the WW2 boats use so much brass in their Launch tube construction. Compressed air played a major role in the launching of a torpedo as you can see by the amount of tubes and valves.
After the tour we walked down the sea wall. There’s a lovely old Lighthouse at the entrance to the harbor.
